Announced Date :  Mar 20, 2017

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), a unit of Hyundai Heavy Industries, has secured an order worth about $240m from Russian firm Sovcomflot to build four LNG-fueled aframax tankers, lngworldnews.com reported.
Each 114,000 DWT Ice-CLass IA aframax tanker would be 250m in length, 44m in width and 21m in height. To be chartered by Shell, the tankers are slated for delivery from the third quarter of 2018.

Hyundai officials said: “They will use the LNG fuel propulsion system, first among large vessels, thereby attracting hot attention as eco-friendly high-efficiency ships.”

The LNG-fueled Ice-Class IA tankers are said to emit 90% less SOx, 80% less NOx, 15% less CO2 along with 50% reduced engine noise.

An HSHI official added that the company is looking to secure more orders for similar tankers.
