Eskom Forms Partnership with Coega Development

Deal Summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Limited (Eskom), a state-owned power utility that generates, transmits and distributes electricity, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Coega Development Corporation (Pty) Ltd (CDC), an industrial development company that provides infrastructure development services, to cooperate in the development of South Africa’s nuclear new build program (NNBP).

Under the partnership, the two companies will work together in support of government’s plans to build local capacity through supplier development and localization around the unfolding infrastructure for the nuclear program. The areas of cooperation covered in the MOU will include, but will not be limited to, the following: (i) project management and implementation services for infrastructure development; (ii) skills development and localization (SD&L); (iii) provision of the requisite skills training for different stages of the project; (iv) socio-economic development (SED) studies in relation to the impact of the NNBP; (v) fitness for duty (FFD) centre processes; and (vi) Stakeholder engagement and communications.
